Removing silicate primer – When conventional methods fail

Not all primers are equally easy to remove. Silicate primer and mineral primer are particularly stubborn – they penetrate deep into the substrate and adhere particularly strongly to glass, plastic, and tiles.

Why is silicate primer so difficult to remove?

Silicate primer reacts chemically with the substrate and forms a particularly strong bond. Normal cleaners and household remedies completely fail here. Mechanical scraping leaves scratches – especially on glass and PVC.

The right solution: Patented special formula

The HATOCH® Primer Remover SPECIAL 500ml was specially developed for all primer types – including acrylic, silicate, and hybrid primers. The patented, solvent-free formula chemically dissolves the bond without attacking the surface.

Step-by-step: Removing silicate primer

  1. Remove coarse dirt from the surface
  2. Apply HATOCH® SPECIAL evenly
  3. Allow to act briefly (2–5 minutes for stubborn cases)
  4. Wipe off with a soft cloth or professional pad sponge
  5. For milky residues: Repeat the process

Milky residues after cleaning?

For silicate primer, milky residues may remain on glass surfaces after cleaning. In this case, metal polish (e.g., Autosol) applied with circular movements helps – then wipe with clear water.

When is a blade holder useful?

For very stubborn, dried-on residues on glass, the Unger Trim 10 Blade Holder can also be used – always at a 45° angle and after prior chemical treatment with the remover.
